Year ended results down 4.8% to 1,099,935 guest nights which indicates we are holding our own considering the decline in international visitors to the South Island however we are starting to see some confidence returning to certain markets. Having been to TRENZ and MATTA Travel shows there are some very promising signs from India, China, Indonesia and segments from UK/Europe.
For the month of March the West Coast was down -6.5% in total with domestic visitors down -13.4% and international visitors down -1.2%. This demonstrates the need to become more aggressive in the domestic markets with promotions to attract domestic visitors in the shoulder and low seasons and we have plans ready to do this once funding is approved. March comparisons with other South Island RTO’s Nelson Tasman -5.6%, Wanaka -14.6%, Fiordland -14.3%, Queenstown +1.5%, Canterbury +5.8%.
