Sport and Recreation

There are heaps of opportunities to compete in and enjoy the outdoors in this region. The most famous of our many endurance events is the Speight’s Coast to Coast held every February. There's also the Buller Marathon, South Westland Triathlon, Brass Monkey Triathlon and the Lake Kaniere Scenic Triathlon. 

 The inaugural Around Brunner Cycle Race attracted 1,200 cyclists for the 130km route in April 2007. The first Source to Sea Cycle Race last year was also a great success. Social events include the annual A&P shows in each district, the Wet West Film Festival, Westland Golf Classic in January and popular fishing competitions.

Five national parks, pristine rivers, glaciers, snow-capped mountains and a conservation estate spanning more than 85 percent of its land area. There really is nowhere else quite like it and it's all yours to enjoy in a temperate climate and uncluttered enviroment.
