In the Main Gallery, people in action will be depicted in paint, clay photography, sculpture, kinetic art, fibre art, environmental art, video art, music and song. The range will only be limited by the artists’’ imaginations!
In the Vault, rugby jerseys will be on display that have been loaned by John Sturgeon with some of his vast collection of stories.
In the Contemporary Pounamu/Jade Room, will contain our collection of works borrowed from local people that tell the story of the Legend of Waitiki and Poutini (depicted in our carved doorway). The legend is the oral history of significant geological stone sites from ancient Maori.
In the North Gallery will be displayed historical photographs of West Coasters in action over 100 years.
Over the eight weeks of the exhibition we will run art classes for young people and adults with sporting themes including life drawing, people in action, sports jersey design and colour, poetry and illustration from historical photos.
In the evenings the Gallery, with its excellent acoustics and ambience, will be open by appointment for tour groups and others for functions and to view the works.
