The West Coast is searching for the World's "Whitebait Shooter" Champion.
A whitebait shooter is a small drink with a whole raw whitebait suspended in it. Whitebait are small fish half the size of your finger with their fins, their guts their heads, their eyes staring at you, and everything else still attached.
To become the champion you select a drink (Shooter) with the whitebait inside and drink it all, Yep, including the fish. Some do it in one gulp and swallow everything whole. Others take tiny sips, they get to the bottom of the glass where they have to tilt their heads right back and let the tiny, slimy fish drop into their mouth, then they chew the fish, head, eyes and all, to get it down. Yummy....! Actually the fish has often taken on the flavour of the drink so it's not as bad as you might think. You then tell us what you think the drink was.
The Whitebait Shooter Champion is the person who correctly identifies the most drinks that they drink with a whitebait suspended in it. The local rules say that the fish and all have to be swallowed or your entry is disqualified.
On arrival, you choose what type of drink you would like to identify. Alcoholic or non-alcoholic and how many you would like to try. Each entry costs $2.
You then select your drink from a choice of drinks, then down the 'drink and all' and tell us what that drink was. At the end of the competition the Champion will receive an All Blacks Rugby Jersey inscribed with "Whitebait Shooter Champion"
