Fire-sky sunsets & lucky stars in Hokitka, West Coast, NZ

Author: West Coast Tourism

Already I am already getting excited about next year’s festival, on the 12th March 2011, when we will celebrate the many cultures that make up the West Coast population by sampling their traditional fare. I have been fortunate to have also been involved in many other events happening around the our region including the hugely successful 75th Anniversary of New Zealand’s First Airline last December and also celebrating the beauty and diversity of the Coast when filming with Maori TV’s ‘Phunk Nation’ and more recently ‘What Now’ TV when they were here.

Coming up in November Hokitika welcome around 350 delegates from around New Zealand to the 2010 LandSAR conference. So, what makes the West Coast special to me?

Well, I am a fifth generation West Coaster – born in Greymouth and growing up in South Westland, and even I am still amazed at the beautiful, rugged landscape and the fantastic colours of the bush, I am in awe of those hard case characters who step up to every challenge with a ‘she’ll be right’, ‘we’ll give that a crack’ attitude and I enjoy ending a perfect day marveling at those incredible fire-sky sunsets.

Every day I thank my lucky stars that I get to live and work here in our little slice of paradise; the West Coast. It doesn’t get much better than this. – Megan Wilson
