The West Coast is an increasingly important training centre for health professionals hoping to work in rural areas. The region's main health employer is the West Coast District Health Board. Its aim is to become a “Centre of Excellence” for rural health services in New Zealand.
There are heaps of opportunities to compete in and enjoy the outdoors in this region. The most famous of our many endurance events is the Speight’s Coast to Coast held every February. There's also the Buller Marathon, South Westland Triathlon, Brass Monkey Triathlon and the Lake Kaniere Scenic Triathlon.
